During this session with Impact Producer, Nadia Denton, Senior Clinical lecturer in Primary Care Education, Ban Haider and Lecturer in Midwifery, Paula Cummins we will watch clips from the new Nollywood film called For Maria Ebun Pataki which was directed by Damilola Orimogunje. The film is about Maria Derin (Meg Otanwa) who has a complicated birth of her first child and becomes withdrawn from family life; unable to engage in the celebrations around her new born.

Participants will discuss the issues that the film presents in terms of

  • mental health
  • depression
  • challenge women face with childbearing
  • affects on family life

All of which are topical in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For Maria Ebun Pataki will have its world premiere at Film Africa on the BFI Player from 30th October – 8th November.
